“Sub-Squad“
If I was going to get “more serious” about this, I thought I’d try a “more serious” look for the art. I was captivated by some ink-wash illustrations in Epic Magazine (sort of like Heavy Metal magazine), and I wanted to do something like that. But I had NO CLUE about how to do it, so I was teaching myself by trial-and-error. And our printer didn’t always handle the artwork properly.
I remembered the Sub-Squad story as being better than it actually is. Turns out it really didn’t have much beyond the initial “sub squad” pun. I do think the first two pages kinda rock – but then it falls pretty flat. I loved doing the art, though – the attack on the YP, the subs approaching Heinz’s lair… But after that … A “magic duplicate”? “Magic pressure”? What was I thinking? At least I got to end it with helicopters blowing up submarines.
